Fan speed control

How can I control the fan speed of a Proliant ML330 on a 2.4 kernel? I tried with the latest cpqhealth but it didn't work (fan speed is always high). I have another Proliant ML330 with RedHat 7.0 (kernel 2.2), a very old cpqhealth 1.1.1-1 and it works fine (fan speed gets lower when the driver loads).
Is there any way to access those low-level features?

Are you sure the kernel is supported with the version that you have installed ?
