Group quotas will not limit usage
Hello,
I'm trying to setup quotas for groups of users. I want to have different amounts of disk space available to users according to what plan they sign up for. But I want to do this hopefully without having to assign the same values to each individual user.
How can I do this?
Quotas are enabled and working for both users and groups.
I've tried setting a block limit for a group and adding a user to that group, but that doesn't seem to keep them from filling up disk space. I've tried making this group the users initial group as well as just an additional group. But no settings that I set in group quotas seem to have any effect on the users in that group.
I have also tried restarting after making these changes and still no success
Any suggestions?
Thanks...

Re: Group quotas will not limit usage
So the user signs up for a plan, they are in a certain group?
Sounds like yahoo mail to me.
Group quotas are not going to effect individual users until the whole group goes over its quota.
Say the quota for group web is 300 MB
You've got 10 users in the group, you'd think that each user would get to 30 MB and then get no more space.
No.
There is no effect by design of this plan until the entire group hits 300 MB.
user1 can have 60 MB and user2 can have 1 MB it doesn't matter until the group hits the wall.
Not being a real maven on space quota's you plan seems to need some work. Unless I've misunderstood you. That is always probable when its me doing the reading.

Re: Group quotas will not limit usage
Did you set quotas on ?
Try to read
http://www.europe.redhat.com/documentation/rhl9/rhl-cg-en-9/ch-disk-quotas.php3
It'll get you the complete procedure.

Re: Group quotas will not limit usage
SEP,
What would you suggest for this.
Would it be better to only monitor disk use and bandwidth use.
Maybe have a certain quota size that a client signs up for, but not limit them to that quota?
Allow them to exceed it with something in the contract for this sort of thing?
??
Thanks...
