Re: how to resize a ntfs partition and install linux
Or you have to use Partition Magic >v7.0
They works, but i give you _no warranty_ about data loss ;-)

Re: how to resize a ntfs partition and install linux
but, if you prefer GPL products, you can :
1/ download an iso at http://www.partimage.org/download.en.html
2/ burn it on a cd
3/ boot on the cd
4/ run run_qt_parted
I think (but i am not sure) that you can resize NTFS partitions

Re: how to resize a ntfs partition and install linux
http://mlf.linux.rulez.org/mlf/ezaz/ntfsresize.html
In the past, I have booted to rescue mode from the Red Hat Linux 9 CD's, mounted a floppy with the statically linked binary (see question 7 of their FAQ) version of ntfsresize, and repartitioned an NTFS partition that way. It has worked well for me, and allowed me to keep an HP recovery image on a PC and still install Linux -- your results may vary.
I >strongly< encourage you to follow the instructions on their site very carefully, including using the Microsoft defragment functionality in Windows XP prior to resizing the partition. I would also encourage you to ensure any important data is backed up prior to resizing the partition.
Good luck!

Re: how to resize a ntfs partition and install linux
Now costs around 150usd, but you can obtain a test license.
Im using version 4.0 and found it very useful to support different OSs.
