How to upgrade SUSE 9.

Hi,

I am new to SUSE.
We have a few SUSE 9 servers running on x86 and x86-64.
I want to upgrade them to SP3. How do I go about it?
Can I use yum for upgrade? Please suggest.

Thanks & Regards,

Shalom,

My reading, not experience says yum can do this upgrade. Custom applications that you wrote may have an issue with this procedure. Oracle may need to be re-linked.

Hi,

You can go with Yum. However there is another method : boot on SP3 cd-rom, select "update" and follow the instructions.

Good lcuk.

Re: How to upgrade SUSE 9.

There are two supported methods for updating SLES9 systems:

- booting with the first CD of the SP and applying all the updates offline

- Yast Online Update (YOU) is a utility in YAST that allows you to connect to Novell servers to update your machine. You must have a valid Novell login and entitlement to do this.

YAST is accessed by typing 'yast' for a curses-based tool or 'yast2' for an X-based gui.

This is the link on installation of SLES9 Support Pack, http://www.novell.com/support/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=3001299&sliceId=SAL_Public&dialogID=11570661&stateId=0%200%2011578596

No, You can't use yum for upgrade, Yast is the tool you can use to upgrade.

Re: How to upgrade SUSE 9.

Hi,

Thanks a lot.

I upgraded using the following steps.

1. Downloaded the SP3 iso's.
2. Started yast2 and configured the installation source.
yast2 --> Software --> Change Source of Installation
3. Used "System Update" to upgrade.
yast2 --> Software --> System Update

Thanks & Regards.
