HP ASM with Red Hat EL4 problems

I am trying to install the Proliant ASM software on a Red Hat EL4 box on a Proliant DL380 server. However the hpasm does not start and refers me to the cpqhealth_boot.log which reads:
----------------------------------------------------
Enabling Advanced Server Management at Fri Feb 9 10:47:49 EST 2007 on Linux kernel: 2.6.9-42.0.8.ELsmp

The hp ProLiant Event Logging Driver is not available
for this Linux kernel: 2.6.9-42.0.8.ELsmp

Looking for sources to build 2.6.9-42.0.8.ELsmp

Sources for Linux kernel 2.6.9-42.0.8.ELsmp have been located

Recompiling cpqevt for current Linux Kernel . . .

WARNING! Not able to rebuild the hp ProLiant Event Logging Driver on this kernel!
See /opt/compaq/cpqhealth/cpqhealth_boot.log
for error details.

The ProLiant ASM driver has failed to load!

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Re: HP ASM with Red Hat EL4 problems

What gcc rpm packages are installed? kernel-smp-devel rpm? Are you by any chance running Oracle on this system and has the compiler been renamed (stupid Oracle instructions)?
