HP DeskJet printer support

There does not seem to be any support for HP DeskJet printers under Linux. This is the closest I have come to being able to express my desire for HP to support their products for use with Linux. If anyone is aware of a way to contact HP and voice my opinion via e-mail/internet, please post it.

I am currently using my HP DeskJet 660Cse with my Linux box as the default printer.

It is working fine for me, even with the Web Pages.

It depends on the model. There is no problem with the printers which support PCL such as DeskJet 550. They are supported through ghostscript. If you are using for example RedHat you can start printtool and you will be
able to easily set up your printer.

On the other hand, there exist some host-based printers such as 710C , 712C, 720C, 722C, 820Cse, 820Cxi, 1000Cse, 1000Cxi which does not support PCL. Such printers use a special communication protocol developed by HP and there is no direct support for linux via ghostscript. However you can use pnm2ppa driver
(see http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/?group_id=1322). As far as I know, this driver supports only BW printing. Colors should be supported in the future.

Tip: if you are using linux in network you can try CUPS (replacement for lpr, see www.cups.org). It is realy cool for printing in network.
