Hello.
I have a P420 RAID controller installed in a Supermicro X8ST3 with a Xeon L5630, 12Gb of RAM and running Truenas latest 12.0 release. Firmware it's at version 6.34 running in HBA mode. It has attached 6 WD VelociRaptor 10.000RPM/ SATA2 drives and one SSD. The boot drive for the Truenas system it's connected to the onboard sata controller ( ICH10R ) and reports proper SATA2 300.000Mb/s
The controller has 1Gb of cache, but not activated due to missing license.
I know that this controller it's 6 Gb/s capable, but when truenas it's booting and listing the drives found, including one SSD, the transfer rate it's listed as follows:
Nov 21 18:02:41 truenas da3 at ciss0 bus 32 scbus1 target 3 lun 0 Nov 21 18:02:41 truenas da3: <ATA WDC WD1600HLFS-6 4V05> Fixed Direct Access SPC-4 SCSI device Nov 21 18:02:41 truenas da3: Serial Number WD-WX51C1032486 Nov 21 18:02:41 truenas da3: 135.168MB/s transfers Nov 21 18:02:41 truenas da3: 152627MB (312581808 512 byte sectors) Nov 21 18:02:41 truenas da6 at ciss0 bus 32 scbus1 target 6 lun 0 Nov 21 18:02:41 truenas da6: <ATA ADATA SU650 1c45> Fixed Direct Access SPC-4 SCSI device Nov 21 18:02:41 truenas da6: Serial Number 2I4920013745 Nov 21 18:02:41 truenas da6: 135.168MB/s transfers Nov 21 18:02:41 truenas da6: 114473MB (234441648 512 byte sectors)
Is this normal?
Thank you !

SolutionGreetings!
We also need to conider the fact that P420 is (SAS) RAID controller and we are using SATA drives. We cannot exactly confirm on the performance of third party drives and moreover it also depends on the drive specifications.
For you reference, please find throughput of HPE SATA drives based on drive description

Re: HP P420 reports 135.168 MB/s transfers
Hello BPSingh.
Thank you for the explanation and document provided. I see that the throughput of the enterprise 10.000k RPM drives it's close to what my P420 it's reporting so having in mind that they are SATA2 drives it's pretty good.
Thank you for your info.
