There is one open source solution in the thread. I should have given the guy a bunny.

Re: I'm looking for a free VIRUS SCANNER for linux
There's documentation and helper applications listed onthe website.
There RPM's available, including one for their pattern auto-updater (called 'freshclam').

Re: I'm looking for a free VIRUS SCANNER for linux
Check the following web page for a list of free virus scanners -- http://www.freebyte.com/antivirus/#scanners
Personally, I'm using Sophos to scan UNIX/Linux Samba servers, but that's not free.

Re: I'm looking for a free VIRUS SCANNER for linux
Note that linux system itself doesn't need to be scanned. What you need to scan are samba shares, mails, and such files Windows can access. There are no viruses for windows (or nobody told me about).

Fred

Fred,
I am sure you meant to write "There are no viruses for Linux"... ;-)
Chris,
Fred brought up very good point -- you don't need to scan for viruses Linux systems that do not handle files coming from Windows. Usually that means unless your Linux system is a Samba server or a mail server you don't need to scan it for viruses.

Chris,
See http://www.clamav.net/doc/latest/clamdoc.pdf
There is a good description there on how to configure it.
