I/O error cause by NFS?

I have a hard mount FS from box A to box B (both are redhat es3), and the input/output errors are still sporadically occurring if I am working on this FS on box B. I check the dmesg on box B and got: nfs: server A not responding, timed out. The problem is sometime I got the I/O error, sometimes did not. Any ideas? Thanks.
