Improve xwindows performance

I am running SUSE Linux 8 and xwindows is a bit slow. Is there any thing I can modify to get xwindows to run faster?

Are you sure its X windows? Take a look at sar to find out the real problem.

X Windows performance is a controlled by system performance and video driver and such. The driver is an important factor.

What is your RAM size?
I guess that you run KDE/GNOME, not just X Window. Got such configuration you need min. 256MB, optimal size >=512MB.

I have 3.5 Gbs of memory on the server and swap is 3 Gbs. All resource utilizartion is okay cpu, memory, disk, and network, no resource seems to be high.

what is the make/model of your gfx card, what driver are you using? what part of X is slow for you?
