Intermittent Printing Problems

Hi there --

I have an HP 5550dtn attached to our network and am trying to configure our Fedora Core 2 workstations to print to it.

The printer has a static ip address assigned to it and its JetDirect card is configured to run at 100 Mbps.

I have gone to the linux workstations and as root have invoked the setup utility to configure the connection to the printer. I have provided a queue name and selected jet direct as the network connection method. I then entered the ip address of the printer and kept the port number at the default 9100. When it came time for the driver selection, I chose HP, scrolled down to the Color LaserJet 5550 entry, and then picked the postscript driver associated with the printer.

When I do a test page to the printer, there are intermittent problems occurring: Sometimes the jobs get printed, othertimes they do not get through. Also, another workstation was initially able to print, but for some reason cannot print. If I reboot the printer, that sometimes helps with the jobs that were stuck in the queue, but that does not completely resolve the issue.

Has anyone got ideas on what is wrong, and what I need to do? Thanks.

Re: Intermittent Printing Problems

The first thing to do is to read the log files which contain important information on your jobs state, and why they do not get processed.

Please give more details about your configuration and the programs you are using.
