iwlist scanning is not supported ...

All,
I am getting this error when trying to run iwlist scanning on my wireless card:
eth1 Interface doesn't support scanning : Operation not supported

I am running FC3 on my laptop. The wireless is a Linksys. The module used is: pcmcia_core 50945 3 orinoco_cs,pcmcia,yenta_socket

eth1 IEEE 802.11-DS ESSID:"XXXXX" Nickname:"localhost.localdomain"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.462GHz Access Point: 00:06:25:E6:7C:97
Bit Rate=11Mb/s Tx-Power=15 dBm Sensitivity:1/3
Retry min limit:8 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:0xXXXXx
Security mode:open
Power Management:off
Link Quality=92/92 Signal level=5/153 Noise level=116/153
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:5
Tx excessive retries:307 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

BTW: I XXX out ESSID and WEP; ignore the value XXX...

Any idea why iwlist scan is not supported? Thanks.

Re: iwlist scanning is not supported ...

Because wireless support is not one of the strong areas of Linux. Many distributions are a little behind Windows.

Ubuntu Linux has a better set of wireless tools than FC3
