Japanese locale problem.

Dear All,

After setting the LANG variable to japanese iam not getting the error messages in Japanese. Iam getting the error messages in some Junk format.
Iam using RedHat Advanced server 2.1

The output of #locale -a |grep ja
ja_JP
ja_JP.eucjp
ja_JP.ujis
ja_JP.utf8
japanese
japanese.euc
japanese.sjis

Kindly help me out in rectifying the same.
