LAN Boot on 712/60 via TFTP
Hi all,
this is not really a HP-Topic, but I'd be glad if someone helped me...
I just got an old 712/60 with a messed up UX 10.20 so I want to install the latest Debian Linux 3.0 (Woody) on my machine. I've downloaded the bootable image and the comlete ISO-CD set, I've installed a TFTP-Server for Windows (yes, It sucks - but I'm too new to Linux to configure it properly...) and now I am done.
I think maybe my built in LAN interface may be damaged, but wouldn't the machine state that? The reason I think so is that on connection to my Hub there is no LED burning. No signs of Life from the 712/60.
If I run the 'Search' command in the boot_admin menu it only returns the harddisk as bootable device.
Thanks in advance,
Jens

Re: LAN Boot on 712/60 via TFTP
The 712 will auto-select either the TP or the AUI connectors. If you have an old AUI converter you could try that to see if the TP connector itself is damaged.
You can try the lanaddress command at the BootAdmin prompt to see if it returns anything other than a MAC address.
other than that the system is a one-board unit. 712's can be found used anywhere fairly cheap if you need to go that route.
