Linix on vmware xp

I'm loading Linux on my laptop so I can crate multi boot partioning, once I have loaded linux red hat successfully I want to install vmare software on my linux server on laptop.

what is the process or command to install vmare software on linux server ? and how do I successfully create linux partionioning ?

I'm able to create a virtual machine on my windows7, my virtual machine is windows xp and I have also loaded linux red hat as well. so I can load redhat into my virtual machine OK.

My goal is to create linux partioning on laptop and then take my windows xp virtual image to my linux server ?

Please help
