Linux as NT domain possible?

Linux as NT domain possible?

Howdy all, new to the forum. Got a Q for ya:

I have Win98 clients, a Win200 Prof. "server", and a Linux server.

I was thinking to unify login authentication. I don't think I can host
an NT domain with Win2K Prof. I think I can get Linux to pretend to
be an NT domain, right?

So, the question is, how do I make Linux pretend to be an NT domain
which all clients use to authenticate, INCLUDING the Win2K machine?

Thanks!

There are several options, I recommend Calderra OpenLinux for messing with and controlling NT DOMAINS. This was written by the pros at SCO and they have a ton of experience with making Microsoft actually work...

i understand that it can replace a windows nt PDC but doesnt have the advanced features of Windows 2000 Server with ADS and stuff like that.

google for more links.

Re: Linux as NT domain possible?

SambaTNG (Version 3.x) is the right choice if you will implement all features and Windows OS versions except full ADS support.

Use the samba version included with SUSE 7.x/8.x or Redhat. With this version you can build an PDC for NT/W2K and w9x clients. If you want to authenticate against an existing ADS Server you can use the LDAP option.

Version < 3.0 of samba doesn't support XP and W2K profiles properly. In this case there are some hints, but drive and printersharing works without a problem.
