without using the Console switch

Can you please explain what do you mean when speaking about "linux console"?
If you speak about "remote console" - you should use iLO http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/iloadv/index.html

Solution2) You can open a port on your firewall and connect with relfections or Hummingbird X emmulation and have the same desktop you would have at a console connection.
I don't know what a console switch is, but believe that there are adequate itrc posts saying how to do it.
