natively, a linux system doesn't got this, unless if there is any utility from vmware side which records host system details inside linux guest systems...

My doubt is, If in your enviornment , there are large number of esxi host, and they had n number of vm running linux operating system.
So consider any one VM, whos Exsi host info details you lost or you do not have it, how will you able to find the esxi host to get the console of the given VM.

Large setups would ideally got monitoring setup that would help.... i agree with you, on setups where we don't have proper setup to track host<>guest tie-up then it would be nightmare for admin folks.. I see that vmware tools if installed would be a handy candidate in these situations... check out this link:
