Linux Mandrake 8.1 Floppy problem?

I install Linux Mandrake 8.1 in my PC1. I did not face any problem with the root account. But when i try to create an account "eric", i cannot access the floppy drive (1.44Mbytes). The one that make me amazed is that i also installed linux mandrake 8.2 in PC2 and i do the same thing with eric accounted create, but can access the floppy. Can solutions maybe (mount of umount) my floppy drive? Can you tell me the full command or any special configuration i need to perform on the eric account. Thank you.

Mounting has to be done as root. I use the icon in gnome on my desktop (best), or you can creat a suid (bad idea), or use sudo (better idea).
