linux, on HP DX2700
I have installed rhl 4 ws, on a HP Compaq DX2700 Microtower PC.
This machine has Realtec 8110S/8169S Gigabit ethernet card.
rhl 4, and suse 10, doesnt detect/installed the driver for rtl 8110S/8169S ethernet card
Plz help what should I do .
I have attached "hwinfo --network", "hwinfo --netcard" and "dmidecode" output file.

Check the Realtek site below for the linux drivers.
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=5&PFid=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
Download, and install the driver. Then update the modprobe.conf file to include an alias line linking eth0 to the proper driver.

I've noticed a disturbing trend from several hardware vendors with the notable exception of Dell. Entry level laptops and desktops are being released without Linux support. As a matter of fact, some effort seems to have been made to NOT support Linux.
These models should be avoided.
To the maker's credit I will say that the online documentation of the system does not claim to have Linux support.
This trend does increase the cost of ownership of Linux because more expensive models are required to run it.
