Linux - Veritas 10

We have Windows backup exec 10 media server for backup. Apart from windows, we backup a Linux server as well through the same software. Server has Veritas 10 while the agent on Linux is 9.0 which works ok. We have just installed another Reh Hat As 3.0 server with Backupexec 10 agent which we are not able to select for backup file from backup exec file selection. Any idea?

If you installed the veritas agent from CD, I would remove it and push a client out from your management server. I had this problem a while back.

Re: Linux - Veritas 10

What I mean is, "if you have a veritas manager system, you can do a remote install from the manager across the network." Rather than using the veritas CD for a local install. I havent done this in a while, but I think you insert the install CD on you Veritas manager system. Then run it and choose remote install.

Here are the directions from the help on Veritas manager.
To install Backup Exec remote agents and options to remote computers, select Remote Install, and then click Next.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note If you do not need to install any Backup Exec options to the local computer, clear the Local Install selection.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On the Backup Exec Remote Features dialog box, in the Destinations Systems pane, right-click either of the following:
Windows Agent/Options Computers. Enables you to install the Backup Exec Remote Agent to a remote Windows computer, or to install the Advanced Open File Options to a remote computer.
NetWare Agent Server. Enables you to install the Backup Exec NetWare Agent to a remote NetWare server.
Do one of the following:
Select Add Remote Computer, browse to select the remote server, and then click Next.
Select Add Remote Computer Manually, type the Domain and Computer Name, and then click OK. This option is not available for NetWare servers.
Enter the user name, password and domain credentials of an account that has administrative rights on the remote computers, and then click OK.
Review the features to be installed, and then click Next.
All features that are not to be installed have an "X" displayed in the feature icon. To enable any of these options, click the icon to clear the X, and then follow the prompts to install it. If the feature icon is gray, the option is not available for change.

Read the installation review, and then click Install.
When the installation is complete, click Next, and then click Finish. You may need to restart the computer in order for the configuration to take effect.

Re: Linux - Veritas 10

There is no veritas manager system. I have unix servers here one has 9.x & other 10.x agent. (.x works okay but in 10.x I am not able to browse folders from Backupexec Windows 10.x media server.

Re: Linux - Veritas 10

The problem is solved temporary. I have uninstalled version 10.x from Linux server & installed 9.x which works ok. As per Veritas, 10.x (ralus) agent needs a license to operate.
