LSI Logic SCSI Controller Channel Speed

hi

i got a ML 370 G4 running linux (debian) with an onboard LSI Logic LSI53C1030 controller - attached to it's channel 0 is an external (with an HP internal to external cable) OVERLAND library (quite old one) with a Quantum DLT7000 (the only devices on the controller - HDs are attached via an extra PCI SmartArray RAID controller)

everything seems fine - the devices got detected - i can copy data via cpio - the controller negotiates a bus speed of 20 MByte/s BUT the connection is extremly unreliable - it sometimes just looses the device with strange SCSI errors

i reduced cable length - this helped a bit - but still sometimes these unrecoverable errors

is there a possibility to reduce the channel speed of the controller ? i'd like to reduce it to 10 MByte/s or less - but i can't find any interface (no SCSI controller BIOS) where i can do it

there is a possibility to set basic things like "full domain validation" or "level 1 only" (hitting F8 during startup) but no way to set the speed or anything like this

thx for any help !

Re: LSI Logic SCSI Controller Channel Speed

Hi,

I had a similar problem with a ML350 G4 with the same controller and an Overland library (Neo 4000).
The library needed a firmware upgrade to be compatible with U320 controller (speed negotiation problems).
I put a U160 card in the machine and the problem disappeared.
