You didn't mention the Linux release you have, but the command in previous versions is:
ext2online
In Fedora 6 and RHEL 5 it's resize2fs.
That requires free space in your logical volume. Read here for more info:

ext2online was removed from RH 5 and Fedora 6 but exact functionality was put moved to resize2fs
