Migration From Windows to Linux 7.2

Hi,
I looking solution for migration of windows NT 4.0 to linux 7.2 with complete data.I have one assembled Windows NT server on which my Media softwares are running,now I want to upgrade to Linux 7.2 so plz suggest best way to do it keep running my present softwares.Or if I prepare another system then how to run those application on new server.I share this PC to other users also.

If you mean RedHat Linux 7.2 it is pretty outdated. Fedora or other up2date distro's might suit you better.

It is just about impossible to keep a production server running while you upgrade; so best bet IMHO is to first install your 7.2 on a test box. I've had RedHat 7.1 running as my primary internet server running Apache for a few years. Lately it is hacked so much that I'm shutting it down and going to Fedora, which is what I am on line with now.

Media software..?? Well if you are talking about playing video (media) files then you should better not consider 7.2. You will require to download and install additional players. Existing ones in 7.2 havent' proved to be stable and often crash. Better go for some other distribution (I would not be advertising here..) but some Linux distributions are really good in desktop/media applications.

If you share your PC with other users, it is safe to have another system prepared. Or else, install your Linux system on a separate hard-disk and you can mount the windows hard-disk to access your existing data. It will be possible to comment how to run your existing applications only after knowing what kind of applications you want to run.

If you are looking to duplicate NT server services, the answer is Samba. It duplciates file services and can even be configured to take over as a primary Domain Controller.

Linux 7.2 is a bad choice. The media capabilities of Fedora Core 1 or Red Hat Enterprise are much stronger.

With regards to media software specifically, Everything except Windows Media player has Linux versions. There are even players for Linux that will paly those files for you.

To be more specific, please list the software you wish to run.
