More Fun with CUPS

I am back again and reinstalled cups on my RedHat server. I now have my xerox printers working great, but the HP laserjets (8100 and 4000) both result in stair-stepped print-outs when I run an lp command. I modified the link for lp printing using alternatives --set print... that worked fine. Here is an example of the lpadmin command used to configure a printer:

lpadmin -p QUEUE_NAME -E -v socket://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -m laserjet.ppd

never mind.. solved it by installing the driver rpm that comes with the OS and then modifying the CUPS configuration with the new driver specific to that printer... works great
