I hope this is the right spot to post a question about Oracle 10g and ASM. I apologize in advance.
Does anyone here seen or heard of an ASM restarting itself? So far, this is the only time I've seen our ASM restarting itself for no apparent reason.
Any ideas where I can look for help on this forum or some logs at the OS level?
Thank you in advance.
Jorge

SolutionASM will restart itself if clustered and there has been a failure, which the cluster monitor script detects and corrects.
Otherwise it should just stay stopped.
Either way you should check the alert and other relavent logs for problems. Also check and see if cron did it.

Re: Oracle 10g & ASM question
1) make a backup copy of init.crsd script
2) please add 'ulimit -n unlimited' to init.crsd immediately after 'ulimit -c unlimited'
Hope this is helpful,
Eric

Re: Oracle 10g & ASM question
Obviously the above workaround was not a fix.

Re: Oracle 10g & ASM question
Our DBA updated our TAR with Oracle and we'll see what their response is to this last ASM restart.

Re: Oracle 10g & ASM question
We currently do not have a solution. This past weekend we were plagued by ASM restarts and we're currently looking at upgrade to 10.1.0.4 to see if Oracle has fixed that bug with in that version. So far it seems to occur when CPU utilization is high on the server.
Sorry I don't have any better news for you,
Eric
