Pbs embeded raid controler - proliant DL320 G4
I've tried to install the driver for the embeded raid controler (on Proliant DL320 G4)
======================
Os : RHEL4 U4
Kernel : 2.6.9-42.EL
PSP 7.60
2x SATA 80Go
RAID1
======================
The array is configured and enabled in BIOS.
The logical volume is recognised at startup.
So I've downloaded adpahci package (adpahci-1.2.5571-1.rhel4.i686.rpm) installed it ant after reboot the server freeze + black screen
The last post is "sda : asking for cache data failed"
Has somebody an idea ?
Thank You

Re: Pbs embeded raid controler - proliant DL320 G4
Reinstall the OS, its trashed. Don't install the drive for the embedded raid controller. The one that ships with the system works quite well. I've got a number of such systems with DSL320 G4 in production. My ftp cluser runs on one, works very nicely without any change in drivers.
Call this adventure, a driver too far.
Its not a bad idea to isntall PSP 7.60 as you've done, it has some very nice feature. Beyond that, do the OS and make the system humm.

Re: Pbs embeded raid controler - proliant DL320 G4
Thank's for reply.
I've made a new full install of RHEL4 U4
but RHEL4 sees 2 sata HDD and not the volume array.
So I made manual partitionning and use only the first HDD (sda) .
That works . I've installed PSP 7.60 again.
Now , how do I verify that the raid 1 works ?
It seems that 2nd HDD (sdb) is empty.
Does it not beeing a clone of sda ??
(Hope you'll understand my bad english ...)

adpahci-1.2.5571-1.rhel4 should support RHEL4 upd4.

Re: Pbs embeded raid controler - proliant DL320 G4
Hi, and thank you for response.
No I had no message during RPM installation.
Anyway, I made an installation (as said above) and without the driver.
When I open the Hardware Browser in RHEL4, the intel SATA driver is well recognized. So thats seems good.
Now, I just want to know how to check the RAID 1 is working (or configure).
The second Hdd (sdb) is ever empty.

Re: Pbs embeded raid controler - proliant DL320 G4
The fact that your linux sees two harddisks instead of 1 (== RAID 1) says that your linux doesn't understand that there is RAID controller.
So we need to install adpahci in order to use this "hardware" RAID.
The other option is create mirror using linux software RAID.

Re: Pbs embeded raid controler - proliant DL320 G4
There is no message about that in /var/logs
(I've made a new install without the driver)
Vitaly :
That's what I had understood first . I need to install adpahci in order to RAID1 works .
I try again and post here asap.
(I found the floppy driver on Hp web.)
Thank's

Re: Pbs embeded raid controler - proliant DL320 G4
adpahci-1.2.5571-1.rhel4.i686.dd.gz
I made a diskette using Rawrite .
Then I reboot the server with RHEL4 CD1 and enter "linux updates dd" at prompt.
Then It ask me to load the diskette and press ENTER but It cannot load the driver.
The message is : Failed to mount updates disk.
I use a USB Floppy.

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/platforms/usb-support.html
(although it doesn't get into any details on specific linux releases such as RHEL4). If the particular floppy drive is a source of trouble then you may have more success with a USB flash drive.

Re: Pbs embeded raid controler - proliant DL320 G4
I've loaded the driver with the USB floppy.
(I made wrong manipulations before ....)
Now RHEL4 see only one drive labelled RAID-1
I make a complete installation.
It will be easy now.
Anyway,
Thanks a lot everybody for your useful help !

Re: Pbs embeded raid controler - proliant DL320 G4
Can you post me the fix please? I have DL320 G5 and have created a floppy disketter from HP Embedded SATA RAID Controller Driver Diskette for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (x86). However when using the disk I try to load the drive I get:
Failed to mount driver disk.
How did you get round the problem?
