Printing 2 pages/sheet

Hi,

We have a LJ5000 networked printer. How do I print multiple pages per sheet from a linux system??. (Not duplex but multiple pages on single sheet). I tried mpage using which the above can be done. But the problem here is every time I end up with a looong comamnd. How do I set it to defaults so that whenever I give a print from any application ( not only lpr but any other app) .. I should get 2 pages per sheet output ( there is no option in printconf).
