Qlogic Failover - forcing path switch
If using the qlogic driver in failover mode, I want to force the failover to the other path (this is using MSA1000 with active/passive 2/8 switches), is there a way to force this in software?
I don't want to use SANsurfer (and I don't believe I can as it appears not to see failover paths even though failover is working).
Basically I want the equivelant of "spmgr select XXX" but without Secure Manager.
I can already do it by removing fibre I just want a software way to do it.
I'm hoping there's something I can do like: -
echo "qla-somethingorother" > /proc/scsi/qla2300/0
c'est possible?

Re: Qlogic Failover - forcing path switch
Based on how long this has not had an answer attempt, I make a suggestion.
Back up the file in question /proc/scsi/qla2300/0
Or copy its contents somewhere safe.
Try your echo command, which I can't help with at all.
Then try it.
Sometimes a test is better than waiting three days for an answer.

Re: Qlogic Failover - forcing path switch
Hi Simon
Via SANsurfer you should be able to see and set failover paths via
Configure --> Highlight the device you are configuring in the Node Name section --> right click --> Configure Luns
From here select the HBA port --> right click and set the LUN to the desired path (prefered/alternate). Once you have made the alteration, save the configuration and rebuild the Linux initrd image as prompted.
Essentialy, by setting an alternate to prefered you are forcing a failover ?
