Re: queruies on mac address

According to the basics of Ethernet, IP & routing, OSI, etc..

The IP layer sits on top of the MAC-layer which means that every routed packet changes from src & dest MAC-address each router it passes.

If your "remote place" is within the same subnet (and therefore does NOT pass any router) a RARP (Reverse ARP) would indeed resolve the IP address of your home pc. A rarp daemon is available for that here: ftp://ftp.dementia.org/pub/net-tools

However... most likely your remote place paces a number of routers and ARP/RARP would be of no practical use for you. In that case I suggest you register a DynDNS domain (see http://www.dyndns.com/) and install a DynDNS client on your home pc, it will automatically update the DNS entries with the "new" dynamic IP address each time it changes. DynDNS gives you ie. homelinux.org domains for free, so your home pc can be named nav882.homelinux.org for example :-)

Connect to the website and register. There are instructions on how to set up windows or linux.

Very simple instructions.
