Questions about Kernel & updates upgrade
Greetings,
I have this Linux server running RHAS 2.1 - 2.4.9 i686 (32-bits). I would like to know what would you experts do to upgrade a server like mine without a subscription with Redhat? The server is no longer have support through Redhat.
Should I buy subscription through RH again? I do have access to RH - I can download the latest version of RHAS 2.1 and run the install from the CDs.
Any words of wisdom??
Thanks,
Jorge

Re: Questions about Kernel & updates upgrade
AFAIK, there are two legal options:
1) buy RH sunscription
2) convert your system to CENTOS - http://www.centos.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=19 [this is for RHEL3, but similar procedure should work for 2.1]
There is one "grey" option - if this non-production machine, you may upgrade this box using updated RHEL2.1 disk. You should run "rpm -F" install for all non-kernel packages; you'll have to add some dependencies.
BTW, I suggest you to consider migration to RHEL/CENTOS 5, because RHEL2.1 end-of-life date is May 31, 2009.

Re: Questions about Kernel & updates upgrade
Unfortunately, this is a production server. I have some options to kick around here.
Thanks for the great advice.
