Raid 5 with Spare HDD
Hi,
This Greetings from Revenue Department, Government of Karnataka. We have HP Prolinnt ML 350 G4P Server in 181 Different Locations with 642 RAID Controller. We are using our servers now with the 2 No's x 146 GB HDD & RAID1+0. Now we are planned to upgrade the server with 6 No's x 300 GB HDD with RAID 5 with Hot Spare Configurations.
We need some clarifications regarding this.
If 1 HDD Fails the Spare HDD will be get up immidiat effect?
After failed the 1 HDD without observation time, after rebuild of Spare HDD another one HDD fails the data on the HDD will be safe or not?
If we can install 2 Filed HDD at a time can rebuild? In this time Previous Configuration type Spre assigned to the same ID of it will be Changed?

>>> If 1 HDD Fails the Spare HDD will be get up immidiat effect?
Yes
>>> After failed the 1 HDD without observation time, after rebuild of Spare HDD another one HDD fails the data on the HDD will be safe or not?
After rebuild will be save, during rebuild not.
>> If we can install 2 Filed HDD at a time can rebuild? In this time Previous Configuration type Spre assigned to the same ID of it will be Changed?
Don't understand this question.
You should also consider RAID 6 (AKA RAID ADG), this is a RAID with dual parity where two disks can fail at a time and the data is safe.

Por que hacerlo dificil si es posible hacerlo facil? - Why do it the hard way, when you can do it the easy way?
