Redhat Advanced Server Unexpected Rebbot
I have one server running redhat AS 2.1. This server suddenly reboot last night and half month ago. There is no error/message logged before and after the reboot.
Does anyone can idea to trace and trouble-shoot this kind of problems?
Thanks and best regards,
Tony Sung

Re: Redhat Advanced Server Unexpected Rebbot
Check the logs /var/log/message
For errors
You didn't write what kind of machine you have.
Do you have some suite for the server to check
in boot the problems of machine?

Re: Redhat Advanced Server Unexpected Rebbot
Unless the server's own power supply suddenly failed.
That will leave very little evidence, perhaps some log messages at boot because the filesystems were not closed cleanly.
I'd look at the power supply first. These type of problems rarely happen just once. Unless the problem was the cleaning staff hitting a button or pulling out a cord, it will happen again.

Re: Redhat Advanced Server Unexpected Rebbot
As there is no error in the /var/log/messages,
I find difficult to troubleshoot.
It is a ProLiant DL580G2 server with dual power supply connecting to two UPS, I am not sure if it is a power failure.
Thank a lot for your comment.

Re: Redhat Advanced Server Unexpected Rebbot
And if it does, did it reboot in the middle of a IO intensive operation (A backup maybe?).
What processes were running on the machine at the time of the reboot?
Do the system load, memory usage, etc go up in a pattern that is repeated each 15 days? Start monitoring these and if you get another reboot analyse them.
Good luck,
Cristi

Re: Redhat Advanced Server Unexpected Rebbot
I didn't think the AS2.1 had an issue with the 'tg3' driver, but it might (if you haven't updated any eratta that exists).
