Re: Redhat and Suse Linux Registration
I am not a sales person, so I would rather not. You are supposed to have at least a basic subscription in order to use RHEL. I'm not you daddy, so I can't force you to buy one. With the subscription you get updates and support from Red Hat. You can always find other ways to get updates, but the subscription really is not that expensive.
If you decide to buy a subscription, or already have one; you will need to create a profile on rhn. Go to the site and create an account. You will have to look around, but there is a section for adding subscriptions. If you have trouble doing that, call Red Hat support. They are always happy to help.\
Once registered you can buy subscriptions online. But if you want, you can always run Fedora, or CentOS. I have done that in the past.

Re: Redhat and Suse Linux Registration
Red Hat requires you to register and have support purchased on all systems. While I think that is a questionable interpretation of the GNU license, it is what you agree to when you buy Red Hat. Knowing RH has no right to sell the software, they don't own it.
You can get a binary compatible copy of RH that you need not register by going to http://centos.org and using their recompile.
RH support is valuable, what you are paying for besides that is the copyrighted logos of Red Hat.

Re: Redhat and Suse Linux Registration
>What are informaitons are needed?

you can create an account on novell for free.
before registering a machine with Novell, you need an account on novell.
The Novell account, you create will associate with your email address.
during the registeration process, you have to provide the same email address(associated with Novell account), on the web page.
this registeration enables you to download patches/fixes/updates upto almost 60 days, then your subscription will expire and to get updates/patches/fixes you need to buy subscription
>is it free?
Yes, but if you need updates/fixes/patches from Novell, then you have to buy subscription
>or How to get the license?
search SUSE distributer/Novell Sales rep
or
http://www.novell.com/company/sales_call_request_popup.html
>what is the problem if we are using with out registeration?
nothing.. but if you think updates/fixes and support are necessary then registeration is required
>When i tried online update "yast --> software --> online update"
>I am getting message "No Patches available".
>So do you think that my suse is registered and patches are not available?
Yes I think, your SUSE is not registered, because there are hundreds of fixes/updates/patches available for SLE 10 SP2
You can check your subscription status at http://www.novell.com/center

Re: Redhat and Suse Linux Registration
Ensure an update channel is available:
rug ca. There should be a "SLES10-Updates" channel.
If there is no channel available, go through the NCC configuration as folows
yast2 inst_suse_register
List available updates: rug lu.
Install specific updates: rug in.
For example: rug in gpg2.
Install all updates from all channels: rug up.
