remove a spare disk from a raid 5

i'm using a HP proliant ML350 g5. i have 2 virtuals disks: one in RAID 1 (with 2 disks) the 2nd in raid5( with 3 disk and 1 spare disk). one of raid1 disks crashed and i'd like to remove the raid5 spare disk and replace the failled disk with it.
my probleme is that i can't diseable the spare from raid5 while in smarstart bios( F8 while booting and after the message Slot 0 HP array E200i controller ). can somebody help me?

Re: remove a spare disk from a raid 5

Shalom,

If you can't do it via the smartstart web interface, then boot the system and try the bios based interface.

If this does not work, you are out of luck, you need to back up and rebuild the system.

Best option in your failure scenario is to run the system without one of the raid 1 disks until you get a replacement disk installed.

The spare scenario for the raid 5 disk is a very useful thing to have, especially if important data is on that raid 5 partition.
