Can you reach that smtp server?
Does ping work?
If so then edit sendmail.cf file
# "Smart" relay host (may be null)
DSsmtp-mta5
Here smtp-mta5 is my smtp server.
restart sendmail.
try sending mail using -v option so you can see what is happening.

						I can ping the smtp server. When I go to /etc/mail and list the directory there is no sendmail.cf file but there is a sendmail.mc file. My HPUX systems have a sendmail.cf but this is a LINUX system.
