ServeRAID driver for Red Hat?

During first initial steps of Red Hat Enterprise ES 4 Update 4 installation, can I give ServeRAID-7e driver for Red Hat Enterprise ES 4 Update 3 (the up-to-date driver)?

Thanks,
Marcello.

Re: ServeRAID driver for Red Hat?

I'm not certain that I understand the question but I do know the following.

The drivers for Linux are built for the kernel version that will be running. So when you are actually running with Update4, you need the driver version that goes with it.

When you are actually running up2date from Update3 you are running with kernel from update 3 and the driver from Update 3. Up2date will pull the latest kernel and driver and when you reboot, you will be running the latest versions of both of those.

If you want to run the driver from Update 3 with the kernel from Update 4 you will not be able to do that.

Re: ServeRAID driver for Red Hat?

Are you sure that when I run up2date (of the kernel package?) from Update3 with kernel from Update 3 and the driver from Update 3, up2date will pull the latest kernel with the latest version of the driver?

Thanks in advance,
Marcello.
