How can i take the snapshot backup on redhat ES-4

i had tried that as follow the instructions in tldp.org website but not working. Explain me as smal example it will help to me a lot

Please give more details about "snapshot" of what do you want to do.

Snapshot of the system, snapshot of database data. Snapshot of some or all file systems?

Now i want snapshot of some file systems only

if any different procedure is there to apply a snaphot of database data and system snapshot
compare to file system snapshot?

Thanking Browne now its working fine now i clear the lvm snapshot backup and the links are pretty good
