something wrong?
Dear Sir
I run NFS on FC4 then mount its sharing directory "/home1" on HP-UX(OS 10.20) as "/hphome1".It has no any problem. But I could not use "rm -rf" to delete a directory in hphome1 at hp-ux.When I execute the command no error outputing on monitor,it seems to success. But I explore the directory again, the directory still exist.I must use "rm -rf " to delete it.Is there something wrong?
In the same case,I use HP-UX(OS 11.11)to mount /home1.I can execute "rm -rf" to finish deleting directory job.
the setting in FC4's /etc/exports is :
/home1 *(rw,no_root_squash,sync)
FC4 and hp-ux are both client of a NIS Server
.So they always use NIS communicating each other........

Re: something wrong?
NFS on FC4 should be based on NFS v4, surely v3.
NFS for 10.20 was originally based on v2 and requires a complex upgrade to add in nfs v3 functionality.
In short there is a lot of room for incompatabibility here.
Also, see that the numeric user id of the Linux user deleting the file is the same as the owner of the files numeric user id in HP-UX. Best policy is if schmo is user id 412 on HP-UX he/she/it should have the same numeric id in Linux for best possible NFS compatibility.
