splitting a linux mirror

Is it possible to split a linux mirror (or 3-way mirror) for the purpose of doing backups? I know with LVM you can use snapshot for creating copies for backup but was wondering if you can do the same with linux mirroring.

You may need more info here.
What distro are you using?
How are you mirroring your disks (lvm is available under linux too)?
