Support Pack for SUSE Linux 8.2 Prof.?
We're using here a Proliant DL360 G3 server with SUSE Linux 8.2 Prof. Can I use one of the existing support-pack's to this OS?
The OS not be able to control the fans. The machine can increase the fan's speed, reducing the speed is only possible when I restart the server. On my other Proliant Servers (OS is Netware) its not a problem with support pack.
Thanks in advance for your advices.
Best regards.

Re: Support Pack for SUSE Linux 8.2 Prof.?
It *may* be possible, but I'm not sure if 8.2 matches all the component requirements or if the support pack will fail if the SuSE type doesn't explicity match one of the Enterprise versions.
You might want to check out http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/linuxhealth.html for information about fan monitoring. There is an rpm for SuSE 7.0 that the article talks about at http://h18004.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/10943.html
It may be that there are closer matches to 8.2 from other versions of the Health and Wellness drivers that you might search for.
Specifically for the Proliant support packs, see chapter 4 from http://h18004.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/WebDoc/640/psp-users-guide.pdf
"The Linux PSP supports the following distributions and versions of Linux and their associated errata kernels:
-Red Hat Linux Professional 7.3 (RH73)
-Red Hat Linux Professional 8.0 (RH80)
-Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 2.1 (RHAS21)
-Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 2.1 (RHEL21)
-Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES 2.1 (RHEL21)
-SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 (SLES7)
-Conectiva S.A., The SCO Group, SuSE Linux AG, and Turbolinux, Inc. powered by UnitedLinux 1.0 (UL10)"

Re: Support Pack for SUSE Linux 8.2 Prof.?
Thanks for your answer.
I cehcked your links.
The software for SUSE-Linux 7.0 don't match the hardware.
IMHO there is no harware damage of the system.
My Dl360 using Netware works with this software right. The speed of the fans will down when lower temperatue is reached. The cabinet where the machine in, is too narrow on front side. sO when door is closed, the servers got too little air.
It seems, that the easiest way is to get more air to the servers frontside. The linux server is a productive server which contain our financial software...
...and I don't have a machine to test the program.
Best regards.

Then, from http://www.hp.com/go/proliantlinux get the document "Managing ProLiant Servers with Linux (pdf)" and follow the instructions for "Custom builds" starting on page 27.
