Re: Upgrading to RedHat Linux AS 4 update 5
The supported one is to use apg-get and do a complete online update of the system.
The other (non-supported, but generally works) is to insert a RHEL4U5 DVD/CD into the drive, let it autodetect and start, and select "update system" when asked what kind of install you want to do.

SolutionWhen moving between major versions of the OS, a clean install is best. It will cause you less headaches in the long run. Moreover, it will force you improve your configuration management processes by understanding what files you've customized in your builds (because you'll have to redo them).
Patching is fine for going from one update to another of the same major release.

Re: Upgrading to RedHat Linux AS 4 update 5
This is a supported upgrade.
You can do it two ways.
1) Build a yum server and upgrade that way.
2) At console boot of AS 4 update 5 media and upgrade that way.

Re: Upgrading to RedHat Linux AS 4 update 5
If Ur systems are production based servers then U make sure full backup Ur valuable data. Then U goes for upgrade process.
Or
This is not a production server, just format & reinstalls RedHat Ent 4 U5, save Ur time.
Thanks - Yaqub
