Re: USB DVD Reader / Writter

Usually usb devices recognized as /dev/sda*
for example /dev/sda1
as for entry in /etc/fstab
I think you should add "noauto" to mount options.
To watch DVD fims you must have the player installed. I'm not sure whether RedHat (I assume that your "Linux 9" is RedHat) comes with DVD player by default, anyway you should try this link:

Re: USB DVD Reader / Writter

I have DVD/CD on an usb and I use linux 9.0, to watch movies RH 9.0 come's with xine (gxine same as xine just other skin and presentation)

to run this with my video card I have to use
xine -V Xshm

you should have a look in your dmesg to see how this CD/DVD is seen by system this should apear in your modules, lsmod should reveale this.

The usb CD/DVD should in fact be seen as a scsi so the command cdrecorde -scanbus should show the CD/DVD

attach the result of dmesg, lsmod, cdrecord, fstab here with a description of your hardware, if you still need help, perhaps we will be able to futher help you.
