Re: Using Mondo-Mindi On Redhat Linux 5.2
Suggestion 1) Get comfortable with upgrading Linux.
I have Mndo Mindi, and I don't think it was extensively tested with your version of Linux.
Since you are reluctant to upgrade:
Run a backup test and see if you can create a backup without fatal errors.
If so, you will need to think about a recovery test. The process is not validated until you have tested backup and restore.
Perhaps you can obtain another cheap pc and test this out.
If you don't upgrade and you don't test. You can not be certain these tools will work.

Re: Using Mondo-Mindi On Redhat Linux 5.2
I encountered many problems using Mondo Rescue, until I ugraded to RedHat version 9. All of my problems were during the recovery effort, not the backup steps. Lots of grub/lilo config problems during the recovery. I also had problems writing to tape. I am running Mondo on all of our linux systems now, and I tested a recovery many many times with success. However, I am writing to CD-RW, not tape.
You do have an option to use the mindi kernel instead of your own, but you need to download the rpm mindi-kernel from the rescue home page. I would suggest, upgrading, even if testing. Write to CD or DVD, and trimming your kernel to make it smaller for a quicker backup.
