Which HP NIC's are supported on Linux [please help]

Greetings all,
I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to install Linux on an HP Prosignia server for over a month! The problem I'm having is getting it to find the NIC (Network Interface Card). I'm using the HP Netflex-2 - actually 6 of them.
I need to turn this box into a Router/ Gateway. So without Linux (RedHat 7.2) seeing the NIC's, it's a pointless endevour. :( I have tried to discover the resources these cards are using, so that I might be able to force Linux to install the cards. But no joy! The only resources I can discover, are the IRQ's, which, of course I feed to Linux, but as I said - no joy. Any help would be _GREATLY_ appreciated. Thanks!

I've never used that card myself, but this resource might help you: http://www.geocities.com/rlcomp_1999/drivers.html

Re: Which HP NIC's are supported on Linux [please help]

Stuart,
Thanks for the fast response! Indeed, I am using a TLAN (Netflex-2) NIC. But it's the predicessor to the Netflex-3, which, altho a TLAN, it has the AMC chip on it. Not the TI (Texas Instruments)chip that mine does. I greatly appreciate the link tho. With any luck I can find an EISA based NIC that is both compatible with my HP Prosignia Server _and_ Linux. So any other pointers/ links/ suggestions that you, or anyone else can give, will be _tremendously_ appreciated!

Thanks again.

hi,

they are not particularly easy to find, but redhat.com have compatibility charts available on their website. The most likely you will find first are the CPU lists, but there are other vendor lists floating around on the site as well.

If you want the box to work without problems, pull out the NIC's within and get yourself a few inexpensive Intel or Netgear 100 BaseT cards. Don't buy the Netgear 1000 BT, they don't work with Linux.

Re: Which HP NIC's are supported on Linux [please help]

Greetings Matt, Steven,
Thank you both for your replies! Indeed, I did check the RedHat site Matt. But I was hoping to find one that was known to work in a Prosignia server. Which, of course, is why I came here. I know that a fair amount of development was done in Linux by Compaq. So I thought someone might have some pointers to any EISA drivers/ cards that are known working/ stable in a Prosignia server/ RedHat combo. I have _exhaustively_ serached the Compaq archives/ site. But as yet, no joy. :( Thank you again Matt. Steven, I checked out Netgear' web site. But they don't have any search facilities. Are you aware of any EISA models they have? I really hesitate to use ISA. As that will _drastically_ reduce performance. Making my use of this box sort of pointless. One of the better points of this box is the busmastering capabilities of EISA. Making this box a good choice for becoming a router (my whole project). Thanks again. I'll anxiously await your reply!
