Xwindow on console does not display after installing SLES-11 OS

Hi,
I have installed SLES-11 SP1 enterprise edition on DL385 HP Proliant server. It has 6G installed memory. Server is running fine. Sad part is i dont get the Xwindow system when connect to console. If i press CTRL+ALT+F1 or F2 i do get the cli console. But Xwindow system has not displayed anything. Please help, how i can make xwindow system work. I am novice Linux user so little bit more explanation would be helpful. I tried changing the settings in BIOS but that did not help.
Thanks,
Niranjan

This might happen if the X display configuration has set the HorizSync and VertRefresh values incorrectly.
please check these values according to your monitor type and settings.

Re: Xwindow on console does not display after installing SLES-11 OS

check xorg.conf for these values, also check the resolution mode

Modes "1024x768" "1024x600" "800x600" "768x576" "640x480"

thanks

Re: Xwindow on console does not display after installing SLES-11 OS

rename the xorg.conf file to xorg.conf.bak and reboot. That usually reconfigures the system,

HI Niranjan,

That file is usually there is /etc/X11
or in /usr/share/local/etc/X11 .

There are lot of other ways other depending upon the distribution to configure the X. I forgot the name of those scripts.

You can do an Xorg -configure to generate a new config file for you.
