I assume it's boot order...
laptop starts no splash then goes to dos password??? never had password...now what?
says f10 to change boot order but doesn't work...

Sounds like someone has put a BIOS Boot password on your laptop. It's either that or a Disk Access password (which is also done through the BIOS).

If neither you nor your Roommate (trying to play tricks on you) have set a BIOS level password, you may need to contact Tech Support for ways to reset the BIOS.
