CPU Usage

Small peer to peer Win98 network using 1x new HP Brio
and 3x used Vectra hardware, 3Com 10/100 PCI NIC 3C905B-TX, TCP/IP protocol and
we have a HP5L printer on the Brio

When exiting applications or at end of a print job on the workstations
(Vectras),System Monitor reports that CPU usage on the Brio drops to zero then
immediately climbs and stays at 75-100%

Network grinds to a halt

Any help appreciated
