find & replace special characters in Excel

I need to find and replace all asteriks in a spreadsheet with a blank. Since an asterik is a special character I need to take away the "specialness", or meta/magic value, as it is referred to in UNIX.

When you want to use special characters: ~, * and ? in you search/replace strings use ~~, ~*, ~?.
