Hard Drive fails

Are there any known isues with the Pavillion DV8000 notebook causing Hard Drive Failures? I am on my fourth hard drive in less than 2 years.

Have all the drives been the same brand?

Re: Hard Drive fails

Two were Hitachi, I can not remember the orginal drive and this last one is a Western digital.

Re: Hard Drive fails

OK, that rules out my 1st recommendation (getting an off-brand replacement). What have been the symptoms of each of the failures? Has any of the data been recoverable?

Bad sectors in the first two the last drive
only clicked and had no recoverable info.

Re: Hard Drive fails

Its kind of hard to say, then, what the root cause is. For the 1st two drives it could be either manufacturing or head crashes. The 3rd drive indicates a head being ripped off the tonearm.

I'd say for this particular model you'd want to shut down the unit and let the drive lock before moving the unit. Sorry I can't give any better advice.

Re: Hard Drive fails

I would look at getting a copy of Spinrite.
also hard drives usually fail when the drives are overheated.
